The Flame Hawkfish aka the Scarlet Hawkish is just a brilliant fish to have in the tank. Yes, its boisterous and placid fish, especially small placid fish could be in for a tough time as it has a very quick darting action when it swims. As character goes, this fish has it in abundance and once settled will engage with you and feed from your hand. I think what has always endeared the species to me is the ability to turn its head! Granted, it will never compete with an owl but it when it looks at something it will slightly twist itself at the gill to get a better look. It enjoys perching and will find a route around the tank that suits its observation requirements and therefore you need plenty of rock or coral for it to be happy. The picture I have used in this post was taken December 21/12/2012 and typifies what Scarlet Hawkfish will get up to. I’m not sure how I can drop the picture in its place holder but if you click on it you can see why I have used it! Its perched on a snail because it could see that I was nearby!

Update 30/12/12: Gets incredibly excited at food time, which is not to much of a problem unless you’re a Royal Grammer and not watching your tail. Yep my Hawkfish gets itself in such a feeding frenzy fiz that it’s taken a piece out of the Royal G’s tail.
