Nano Tank Daily Report
First of all, sorry for the reflection of my sofa in the left of the picture. As I only write about a day after the day is done I did not notice and the first rule of Nano Reef Tank is that a picture of the reef has to be from the day in the diary. The clean up crew have been quietly working away, slowly. Too slowly! I have decided to bring in some further reinforcements and I should have this new team in by Day 11 PM:
- Blue Eye Reef Hermit Crab x 3
- Black Foot Trochus Snails x 3
- Small Nassarius Vibex Snails x 2
I’m even considering a sand sifting starfish but I’m concerned about its survival. When I ran my old 90 gallon reef tank, I had a classic green sand sifter, a blue and a brittle starfish – all of which thrived (the brittle had a leg span of around 14 inches, more like a Kraken!) but with the this Nano I’m unsure if I have enough of a sand bed (10KG). I will wait to see how the new CUC get to grips with the bed and rocks over the next week or so and evaluate how effective they have been. Either I will up their number or add a couple of different species before buying a star.
Life:
Lost control of my wallet and impulse again and have bought a Frogspawn LPS Coral. I can hear the reef community shaking their heads from where I’m sitting but here’s the thing; the tank has cycled and is doing brilliantly – test levels are excellent and experience tells me I’m ok but I also know that I have pushed it (slight rise NO3) as far as I am willing to for now and will wait for at least 10 days before adding any other large coral pieces (although I’m not adverse to adding small frags if I see any that I like.)

Sump changes – I have added a piece of FilterMat (Fine structure 25mm thickness underneath the skimmer to see if this will add any benefits to the system and as it is white I’m curious to see what it catches from the process (if anything)
