Why?
When I decided how I was going to set up my tank, one of the main factors that I was concerned about was wave function and water flow. The Kent Nano Reef Tank has a single pump and the hose has a Y connector that allows the water back to the tank through two different returns. For the size of tank, this provides a fairly decent amount of flow but it cannot not be called an ideal solution. The other form of water agitation supplied with the tank, comes from a small powerhead with a magnetic fixing and again this is ok but nor brilliant. I believed that I needed a more powerful….
Solution: JBJ Ocean Pulse
I decided, after looking around, that the solution was to buy a wave maker that would offer the ability to run two powerheads (the powerheads I purchased can be read about here) together but alternating on a timer. For its cost and it does exactly what I wanted the JBJ Ocean Pulse was the perfect choice:

Verdict
My set up has a powerhead either side of the tank and the timer is set at three minutes. My coral, fish and tank have all benefited massively from the addition of the JBJ Ocean Pulse. When I turn the unit off for tank maintenance, the difference in the way everything behaves is quite startling; everything just seems to stop or deflate. Water parameters, lighting and heating aside I would advise anyone trying to set up a Nano Reef Tank to put a powerhead in for every 50l of water.
The 6 month warranty seemed a little strange and obviously there must be some logic behind it but how this translates to me is that they do not have faith in the components and it has a very good chance of failing after 128 days! To be honest, I’m not that bothered as this is a good piece of kit and I’m hoping it lasts longer than its warranty!
Highly recommended.
