Pulsating Xenia Keepers Thoughts
When I bought my frag with 5 heads I didn’t expect the transportation to cause it as much stress as it did. The specimen was shipped overnight on a timed delivery but it didn’t enjoy the journey and looked very sorry for itself. It took the best part of 5 days to get itself orientated and showing signs of plumpness. Once settled, it enjoys its position at the top of the reef and has been spreading well. It seems to really enjoy growing onto my Sargassum! The only down side to this being that I have tor trim the Sargassum to keep it under control but at lease it’s easier then prune a piece with Xenia and attach the Sargassum to the reef!
Pulsating Xenia Feeding
Happy enough pulsing away and are reported to enjoy tanks that have a higher than normal dissolved nutrient level. Most of the nutrients they acquire through the photosynthesis in their zooxanthellae.
Pulsating Xenia Concerns
Lighting must be good and so position is important. Colony death is something I have read quite a bit about but have yet to experience. School of though is that it may be caused by Xenia having a short life span or other external conditions. With its fast rate of growth, I would guess that the short life span my have some logic to it.
