Quite pleased with the tests from yesterday and for the sake of my sanity I’m going to test for ammonia today. I have held off in the belief that early on there is no need as you know its there because of the cycling and you can tell by observation that if it was not dropping then life would struggle to exist. Purists would say say its foolish not to know and monitor and I have to agree which is why I’m testing.
Bid Day on the reef as the Clean Up Crew will make their appearance today and I’m also putting the first coral in – see below for for more details.

[header 5]Life[/header]Hot on the heels of everything going well today signifies what I would deem a huge leap forward for the tank and this the arrival of copepods. If I thought I was thrilled by earlier developments then I’m ecstatic with this development as life cannot survive or begin without a suitable environment

[header 5]Equipment[/header]I have angled the top pump water return even higher to agitate the surface further. The main reason for this choice is that I’m struggling to bring the temperature down below 25.8 to 26.1 and my theory is that by pushing more water through the surface I will be able to create a cooling process.

Seem to have quite a fewa tank teaming with varying sizes and I have tried to film one that seemed to be the largest and most camera friendly. I can identify at least 20 specimens have a tank full and I imagine there are a lot more which are smaller than the bubbles in tank that are difficult to distinguish for the moment!

Striped Green Mushroom (Actinodiscus sp.)
I have decided the first coral in should be this nice Striped Green Mushroom. I have put it at the bottom of the tank where it should thrive but like everything only time can tell. The picture left shows how it looked when it first arrived and I have to say that I didn’t feel that it was thriving when I bought it (Maidenhead Aquatics). I’m not saying it was dying, just lacking that plumpness that this coral will usually display. Feeding will be once a week and I’m using Salifert Coral Food dosing at 10 drops (1mm) which will be more than enough. Obviously, I will have to up my testing in line with this new inclusion but more of that when I do it over the coming week.
