Nano Reef Tank Day 2

Kent Nano Reef Tank, Nano Reef Tank Setup

Really good result with tank clarity overnight but the temperature seems to be an issue as it’s risen to 28.9C (84.02F). It seems to fluctuate by .4 degrees (I’m measuring with a BiOrb digital thermometer). Have to say I’m not impressed with the interpet heater stability and I’m going to change it for a something with a digital control and see if this helps improve the accuracy. It seems to fluctuate by .4 degrees (I’m measuring with a BiOrb digital thermometer).

I’m also going to change the Kent wave maker as there seems to be a quite lot of noise – it’s as if the impeller is vibrating against the plastic hood. I have tried adjusting it, removing it and reseating it but I can not make it stop. To make matters worse it’s an intermittent fault and if I flick the power on and off a few times it seems to stop it.

Change the Kent wave maker and also the heater. Rather than be wasteful I can utilise these when I’m making water for the tank. I’m also going to invest in a JBJ Ocean Pulse Duo Wavemaker to alternate the water current from the 2 NeWave units.

After a little digging around I’m going to buy:

1 x NeWave 1000 Circulation Pump 1 x NeWave 2000 Circulation Pump 1 x JBJ Ocean Pulse Duo Wavemaker 1 x TMC V2 Therm Digital Heater 100w 1 x Mag-Float Floating Magnet Cleaner Medium

If you are wondering why I have 2 different sizes of circulation pumps it’s because the stockist only had 1 1000 unit.

Not preparing; I could have saved myself a couple of delivery charges by buying supplies in a more organised manner. Also, as one of the main ideas behind this site is to show how the tank is set up I could have bought a glass cleaner from the start.

About the Author
Not much to say really other than I had a reef tank about 6 years ago and decided to get back into it but on a smaller scale. Harder work offset by a cheaper entry point on equipment and stocking! Then I had an idea about running a diary of what happens on a ...daily (!) basis. And here we are: All thoughts, comments, cakes and coffee gratefully accepted (",)
