Preface: Nano Reef Tank Day Zero

The idea behind this site began, to some extent, by accident. Let me elaborate: During the 3rd week of August 2012, I happened to be in a local garden centre with my wife and daughter (on a first visit) and I noticed that they had a Maidenhead Aquatics in store. My eyes lit up as a few years ago I had a 60 gallon reef tank and like a moth to a flame I made my way to the displays. What I found was the usual collection fish, corals, tanks and supplies that Maidenhead supply and a nice reef setup using a Kent Nano Reef Tank. My first instinct; 92 litres! That would be a really difficult tank to look after due to the small volume of water but here was a tank that looked great, established, where everything seemed vibrant and healthy. I started thinking that if the shop could create a Nano Reef then I could do it too…

At this point my darling wife caught up with me (I had given her the slip!) and asked me what I was doing. I explained about having a tank, how great it would be, manageable at this size(!), fantastic education for our daughter (whom at 2 is already destined to be a marine biologist) and just generally something to enjoy. She promised me that “if I was a good boy she would get me one for Christmas”. If ever there was an incentive to empty the dishwasher then surely this has to be it?

Imagine my surprise when the day of my birthday a week later she invites me tear the wrapping off a large box in our garage only to reveal a Kent Nano Reef Tank. I was thrilled and still am but then I thought the hard but fun work begins. I hope you enjoy reading the blog and please feel free to leave a comment or ask a question. I intend to expand the site with other things like a forum and will look to publish reviews based on my experience of setting this tank up.

About the Author
Not much to say really other than I had a reef tank about 6 years ago and decided to get back into it but on a smaller scale. Harder work offset by a cheaper entry point on equipment and stocking! Then I had an idea about running a diary of what happens on a ...daily (!) basis. And here we are: All thoughts, comments, cakes and coffee gratefully accepted (",)
